5 Tips to Boost Confidence This Spring Summer*

Spring Summer is supposedly fast approaching (ignoring the weather forecast for snow, that is), and along with a change in temperature often comes a change in the clothing one might wear - and along with this can come confidence issues. It's this time of year where the dreaded "summer body" adverts seem to be almost inescapable. But I'm absolutely an advocate for reaching a point with both body positivity and self-love where confidence is the most important thing, not whether you can lose a stone in weight with a couple of magic pills.

And these are my top tips for staying confident in those cute AF summer outfits.

1. Find your fit.

I personally don't like clothes that cling. Not only is this to avoid getting too hot and sweaty but I find that flowy clothes look far better on my figure than tight-fitting bodycon dresses. It took me a while to get to this point but once I realised that skater style dresses to suit my body type, I felt so much more confident. Find outfits and clothing that accentuates the parts you love and that makes you feel the most comfortable. As soon as you put on an outfit that doesn't look or feel right, you won't feel comfortable or confident - and it'll show.

2. Ignore the numbers.

After a season of thick knitwear, putting on a pair of shorts can sometimes be a shock - but that doesn't mean you can't wear them. Don't get yourself stuck on only buying your size. Clothing sizes in shops vary so don't get frustrated if you're having to size up. When it's hot outside, the most important thing is to be comfortable so if that means sizing up, do it. After all, you're the only one who knows the size you're wearing.

3. Don't let "that time of the month" stop you.

When I was younger, I used to be really self-confident about wearing dresses or skirts when I was on my period. What happens if my skirt blows up and someone can see? How can I go to the beach if you're on your period? If this is going to ruin your mate's beach BBQ, then I'd totally suggest investing in some Knixteen period-proof underwear. These are absolutely revolutionary no-VPL & super thin underwear that is designed for that time of the month and avoid any leaks and reduce sweat down there. Making it perfect for summer. They come in two styles so will work wonders and definitely make you feel 100% more confident.

4. Practice simple gestures of self-love.

For me, a huge way that I practice self-love is shaving my legs during the summer. For me personally, that's a huge way that I feel less confident. You may find that applying fake-tan gives you the boost you need, or that getting your eyebrows waxed seriously boosts your confidence. Recognise what works for you and make sure it's done before you wear that cute summer dress.

5. Don't feel obliged to follow trends.

When I was 14, I used to freak out about the crop top trend because I couldn't comprehend wearing something that wasn't in fashion and I didn't want to wear a crop top. Just because it's "trendy", doesn't mean that you have to wear it. It's so important to discover what suits you and rock that. At the end of the day, no one cares what someone is wearing so the important thing is to find what works for you.
