Spring cleaning: Deco tips for the new season
I know that some people tend to keep the same deco for years at a time - and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. Part of me envies this approach; I like the idea of having a consistent home, and not changing things up too frequently.
Unfortunately, I just can't. I tend to chop and change my home by season and with spring coming up, I'm due a new "version", so to speak.
Firstly, you really can go as far as you would like during this season. For example, I have a couple of friends who place all their attention on flowers. This is one of the easiest wins you can make, as there are so many flowers out there which just shout “SPRING!” from the rooftops. The following are some common favorites and can make all the difference in your home:
Tulips
Primrose
Daffodils (these tend to be really cheap at this time of year!)
Rhododendron
There is also a really good list over here: https://www.housebeautiful.com/lifestyle/gardening/g26871666/best-flowers-to-plant-for-spring/
As a side note, Avas Flowers can be a really good stop for those of you who are looking to try out the above. I first found out about Avas Flowers a few years ago, and the Avas Flowers Instagram and Avas Flowers Pinterest pages are now two of my favorites in my Google Chrome browser! They both provide great inspiration when I’m looking to change my home through the seasons.
My next suggestion is a bit vaguer, depending on the way that you take it. Put simply, spring is the season of color. Winter is the time of the year in which we all bask in dark shades, in a bid to make our homes cozier. When spring comes, it's all about sprucing things up with as much brightness as can be.
In extreme cases, where I really want to make an impact with my home, I'll paint the walls. However, usually it's just about buying a few colorful ornaments, or even changing a couple of blinds (this is a surprisingly cheap way to transform a room as well).
On the subject of blinds, this is the season where you can make things as light as possible with any type of fabric. It might be blinds, curtains, table clothes of even light shades – anything goes. Again, we are moving out of the dark season, and into the one where we need to make the most of color. You don’t have to purchase all of these items; individually they still make a difference.
Finally, it’s not all about aesthetics. Some years I just try and make the difference with the scent of my house. Nowadays, there are all sorts of Christmas candles out there – and I’m guilty of purchasing them every year! Of course, leaving them out during spring is a definite no-no, so you need to change things up. Floral and citrus candles both work a charm in this regard.
As you can see, there are umpteen ways to transform your home when Spring strikes. You might not turn things around every few months like I do, but sometimes it takes just minor changes in deco to make all of the difference.
Give things a go and let me know how you get on in the comments.
