Everyone goes through seasons when there is so much to do but not enough energy or time to go around. You feel inadequate, exhausted, worn out, and on the verge of burnout. You can't even remember why you are doing it all in the first place. If this sounds familiar, here are things you can do when overwhelmed
Create Time for Something You Love
Do you love exploring the outdoors? Probably this is what you need to do more to feel relaxed, happy, and at peace. If you love riding bikes, get yourself one or a scooter, invest in one sure insurance, and then create time every three days or over the weekend to visit new places.
Enjoy the outdoor weather, meet new people, talk with your family and relax. Set a goal of how many places you want to visit or how many kilometres you want to travel on the scooter every week.
Take A Break from Social Media
On those days when you feel overwhelmed, you may be tempted to check up on everyone else's life through Facebook or Twitter. Doing so can magnify your feelings of inadequacy and overwhelm. Unfriend them from your newsfeed or make a rule not to check-in when feeling overwhelmed.
Ask for Help Before You Get Overwhelmed
To many, the idea of asking for help is uncomfortable. However, everyone needs help sometimes doing even the simplest tasks. If you have small kids, hire someone for a day, relax or sleep. If the everyday responsibilities are many, delegate to other family members, workmates and hire help.
Try Doing Nothing
It sounds counterintuitive, but know that there is great power in doing nothing. It may mean taking an hour after dinner to do nothing but relax, play with the kids or read a good book. The best part about this is that you don't need to feel guilty about not getting anything done.
Go on a Solo Vacation
Take a week or the weekend to go somewhere to enjoy peace, take long walks or hikes by yourself, read a book without interruption, or use your camera to do some bird watching. It's an excellent thing for introverts to do, but extroverts can find it fulfilling as well.
The peace and quietness, long nights, sleep, and relaxation will enable you to unwind, strategise, assess what you need, how to deal with stress, and set your priorities for the future.
Write Down Your Thoughts
What's making you feel that way. Is it too much work or the feeling that you're not achieving as much as you would like to? Sometimes you might not even know the reason, but writing down your thoughts clears the mind and makes you more focused.
Make Your To-Do List
Start with listing out all the things that are making you feel overwhelmed. Getting these done will help you feel accomplished at the end of the day. Next, prioritise them based on what needs to be done that day or week.
Doing so will help you feel more in control of your situation. Focus on one task at a time and plan out the steps needed. Once you've finished, reevaluate your list of tasks and determine if any new ones have come up. The most challenging thing will be taking that first step towards doing something different, but once you do, then the rest will follow suit.
