5 Steps for Body Confidence

Weirdly enough, I find my body confidence woes to be a bigger issue in Autumn than in the Summer. In the summer months I regularly opt for floaty summer dresses and feel wonderfully confident, but something about the change in wardrobe and season often leaves me in a slump. And in honour of Knix’s project that celebrates the beauty of postpartum, I was inspired to share some of my tips to feeling the most body confident - whether postpartum or not.

  1. Cleanse and refresh.

The days where I have the lowest confidence are nearly always those where my hair hasn’t been washed and my skin is breaking out. So by having a hot shower or bath, washing and drying my hair and applying a face mask - I normally always feel like a new woman. For the ultimate revive, I dry brush before I get into the shower to really help improve the connection to my body - particularly helpful if you work an office job like me.

2. Comfort food but not a binge.

I know that until recently, if ever I felt rubbish in myself, I’d reach for crisps. But that solves nothing - so I now keep a variety of warming meals in the freezer so if I’m not feeling too great, I can make sure to still eat properly. This normally for me involves some sort of pasta with a veg based sauce.

3. Move your body

Because I work in an office based job, I often find that low confidence is related to not having been to the gym for a while. When I’m feeling low, I often lie on an acupressure mat or make sure to stretch out my limbs. It makes all the difference.

4. Occupy yourself

Not feeling too great? Put on the latest episode of Gilmore Girls or the latest Netflix release. Want to get out of the house? Go on a brisk walk. By staying in one place, my mind often dwells on everything I don’t want it to - so try and do something distracting.

5. Remember this is just a blip.

I used to follow low confidence days with intensive workouts and strict meal plans - but that did nothing to assess why I felt low. Don’t try and rewrite the past but instead look for why you don’t feel great and look at how that can be improved.

What do you do when you’re feeling low?
