Skincare Saviours
Someone asked me the other day what my ultimate skin care products would be aside from standard face cleansers so I decided to do a post on it.
I've never been a big moisturising fan as I was always under the illusion that as I had occasionally oily skin, I shouldn't use it but basically I had been misinformed. Lately I've been using the Merumaya Overnight Recharge Night Cream* and this stuff is incredible. I've used it every evening for the past two weeks and have genuinely seen a difference in my skin - it's softer, I have very few blemishes and any scars have healed up. Also in the morning there is definitely less puffiness around my eyes (perfect for when I have 9am lectures!). It's also a really nice base for makeup and isn't too slippery.
My ultimate blemish care product is Clindamycin Lotion. I was prescribed this but I included it purely because many blemish products contain Clindamycin so I would recommend reading the ingredients and trying to find something that contains it. Clindamycin inhibits the bacteria that cause breakouts so as soon as I start to get the slightest hint of a spot, I whack this on and it disappears within the day. Obviously, this is a highly concentrated version because it was prescribed when I had acne, but I still use it purely for blemishes. So be aware that blemish treatments that contain clindamycin may not have such a quick response but will still do their job, it may just take a couple of days. The one I use is definitely not available without a prescription but if you suffer from acne, it's worth making an appointment.
Then another Merumaya product; their Skin Brightening Exfoliating Peel*. This is incredible. I love a good face mask and this is brilliant. It spreads really well so you only need a little bit then apply it to your skin and there is a definite difference. To see a dramatic difference, try it on your hand first - I literally had a strip of paler skin and it was so much softer. Obviously because your hands don't normally encounter scrubs, this would be more dramatic but it shows the general effect nonetheless. (By the way, the normal packaging doesn't have a red strip, but my tube burst so I had to use a bit of duct tape to hold it together!)
Finally, Simple's Kind to Skin Deep Cleansing Face Mask. This has a similar consistency to a lotion and is really thick and quite creamy but I find it's perfect for nourishing the skin and I generally like to use this on Fridays when I'm having a night in and to destress. It's not a peel off mask so doesn't strip your skin but is really great if you have drier skin - obviously it's perfect for people with sensitive skin but I can imagine it's a good all rounder.
Do you have any skincare products you couldn't live without?
