A Journey of Food Discovery

Going out or getting food should always be an experience of some form. Whether it's the presentation of the meal, the act of sharing a few dishes between friends or simply being able to get dressed up before visiting a restaurant - food is an experience. Growing up around the world has put me in a position where I've been fortunate enough to try an array of foods - so thought I'd share my top four food discovery moments with you!

  1. The Tapas Share As I mentioned, there's something wonderful about a variety of tapas style dishes being shared between friends. Not only does it mean you get to try so many different dishes, but it's also a communal moment. I firmly believe that most catch ups with friends should surround some sort of food or drink, and tapas is normally a great way to cater to everyone's needs! Paired with a good bottle of Spanish wine, then you've got yourself a perfect evening with friends.

  2. Korean BBQ The ideal party venues, Korean BBQ is one of the best interactive food moments that I've experienced! Ideal for birthdays or catching up with a group of friends that you perhaps may not have seen in a while, as it's always a bonding experience getting involved. This is also perfect if you have friends with a variety of eating preferences, as the food is matched to how people like it.

  3. Sunday Roast Is there anything more British than a Sunday roast? There's something wonderful about going for a pub roast after a long walk - the perfect way to close off a weekend. perhaps in this case, the experience is the combination of the walk and roast - which honestly can't be beat. The northerner in me is perfectly content with just a Toby carvery, but of course, anything better is always welcome...

  4. Sushi train experience I'm a huge fan of all Japanese food - and when I visited Tokyo in 2018, I expected to be inundated by sushi, but was pleasantly surprised that the country unsurprisingly had far more to offer. From Ramen to Tonkatsu, we found that most Japanese food places were a communal dining experience and less of a European restaurant style night. But we also found whilst in the UK, Sushi is an all day affair, in Japan it was a breakfast and lunch deal. We visited a famous fish market in Tokyo and very happily visited a local sushi place for lunch - enjoying the vast array of very fresh food. But the whole event was an experience - particularly as the sushi chefs made your food right in front of you - a common theme in many restaurants we visited in Japan.

What have some of your favourite food experiences been? Anything notable that comes to mind? Please let me know - as I'm sure you'll have gathered, food is very important to me! Let me know in the comments. Where's some of the best events you've had at food places? Please let me know if there are any in the UK, as I seem to have a never ending food list of places to try....
