Upping Your Gym Game
When the gym becomes your second home, it's easy to stop pushing yourself and become distracted by basically anything aside from the stairmaster and it's easy to become complacent. I found myself here not too long ago and noticed a decline in muscle tone and fat loss, so had to up my game.
Here are my favourite ways to snap back into the swing of things.
- Switch up your routine. This seems like a bit of a no brainer but muscle memory is so real and your body will get used to working out in the same way so changing things up is essential. Throw in a new class or a new cardio machine to activate new muscles and get that heart rate up. I use the app JeFit which creates new routines and is helpful to try new things.
- Sweet Sweat. Two words, sweet sweat. If you're in the UK, you can pick this up on eBay but this is great for getting you sweating again. I wouldn't recommend trying any thermogenic tablets as they're all gimmicks but this stuff really works!
- Hire a PT. I know this is definitely not an affordable option but I train with Darren Craven twice a week which means I'm constantly trying new things and avoid too much muscle memory. If a regular PT just isn't an option, why not hire one for a month just to help provide a new routine!
- Foam Roll that body. This isn't necessarily a way to improve your gym game but it's so important to help roll out those muscles after a strenuous work out. As I do a lot of spinning, I have quite short hamstrings but regular foam rolling avoids this impacting any other work outs. A foam roller is also helpful to prevent soreness the next day! You can pick them up for less than a tenner online but most gyms have them!
