Throw the Party of the New Decade

Getting ready for a party is fun, but planning the party can be much better. You do, however, need to remember to have fun and leave stress behind. Use these tricks, and you’ll host the party of the new decade, all the while having fun:

1. Plan

Plan, plan, plan... and then plan some more. This is the golden rule for throwing a successful and stress-free party. Start thinking of the big day and how you want it to go. After you've got that image in your mind, write down everything you're going to need to make it that way: from menus to decor, get it on paper and then create a plan of attack.

2. Signature Drink

Alcohol can be one of your biggest expenses when throwing a party. While you can always ask guests to bring their own bottles, that tactic doesn’t always work out as well as you’d like. Rather than footing an expensive alcohol bill yourself, try creating your own signature party drink. Doing this allows you to buy just one kind of alcohol and fill in with less expensive mixes. It’s also fun to make your own drink. Add to the fun by asking guests to name your special concoction and then vote on the best one. For those who don’t drink, dress up nonalcoholic beverages like sparkling water and sodas with fresh fruit and fun straws.

3. Entertainment

If you want to make your party the most memorable one yet? Booking the right entertainment is vital to take your event from good to great and put on a show that everyone will be talking about for years to come. A simple google search will put you in touch with local entertainment for hire. Your entertainment can vary from games, comedians, bands and/or a DJ. A big part of picking the right entertainment is knowing your audience. You have to not only look at things like age and profession but also the personalities of those you are seeking to entertain.

4. Pick a Theme

Every fabulous party needs an original theme. Before you spend a single penny on party supplies, be sure that you have picked a central theme that will keep you focused and on track. A theme helps you set the tone for the party and focus your planning efforts. It also helps keep the budget under control, because you can spend less and yet have a bigger impact when your expenses are all centered around the same main idea. Pinterest is full of inspiration and the instant you stumble upon a theme you love.
