How Self-Care Applies To Fashion & Style

Most fashion-conscious and stylish people have their own methods of caring for themselves they’ve developed after a while. Even how you remove your makeup in the evening or how you manage your skincare is tantamount to self-care. But are there certain strains that only those who regularly engage in fashionable exploration need to consider?

After all, fashion and self-care are considered similar as they positively influence how we feel day to day. You may wish to look good, but if doing so didn’t make you feel more complete, you are unlikely to continue engaging in it.

A more focused approach to integrating self-care into your style choices can lead to a healthier, happier you. So, outside of the usual self-care advice, we think it could be prudent to offer specific advice to those known for looking their best. Let’s get started:

Correct Sizing & Comfort

Wearing clothes that fit well isn’t always a style decision (oversized or skinny options are still stylish,) but they can significantly impact your comfort and health for the better. If you’re not careful, poorly fitted garments can cause discomfort, restrict movement, and even lead to skin irritation.

Knowing varied sizes for the correct brands or fashionable pieces will ensure that your clothes support your body properly, and that’s not too much to ask. This is especially important for items like bras, shoes, and trousers, as they will help you maintain good posture and prevent issues like back pain or blisters.

Piercing & Tattoo Care

Body modifications like piercings and tattoos are cool expressions of style, but they require proper care to avoid health issues, especially if you’re new to them or have a new piercing. As such, following recommended body piercing care and techniques is crucial.

This will include cleaning piercings regularly, using appropriate jewelry, and avoiding irritation. It also means going to trustworthy stores or practitioners. For tattoos, keeping the skin moisturized and protected from the sun helps maintain the artwork and prevents infections after use.

Footwear & Foot Health

Choosing the right footwear, even if you’re more concerned with looking good that day than running a marathon, is essential for overall health. Shoes that provide good arch support and cushioning can help you avoid the frustrating annoyances that are foot pain, blisters, and long-term issues that may even impact your gait.

This is important if you enjoy wearing heels or combat boots or whatever unique options fit into your style preferences for that day or that event. For example, wearing supportive sneakers for exercise or comfortable flats for a night out, even if you only wear heels for a time, can save you hours of discomfort as the night wears on.

It’s easy to forget about our foot health as we enjoy fashion, because there are so many nice shoes out there and it’s not like you’ll wear several different layers on your feet. But having foot pain can ruin an event, so don’t ignore this worthwhile consideration.

With this advice, you’ll be certain to see how self care applies to fashion and style.
